Having troubles getting your film listed on IMDb but still need an official online presence? Then this is the perfect update for you!
The beginnings of our film listing pages are now live and mostly functional. More customization and UI improvement will come shortly, as well as a functional film search.
As of right now the ability to add and edit films is fully functional.
You can tag your cast (if they are registered) using @User or simply entering their full name.
Doing so will result in a credit appearing on their profile!
A much larger update post coming soon!
You guys like complements? What about complementary colours?
We know we've been slacking on update report so here's a little teaser as to one of the many visual updates we've added to our platform!
Festivals wishing not to use a banner now has a pleasing gradient automatically created, in place of a banner, based on their UID and their festival colour. We don't imagine any two will be alike.
Further options may come down the line as some colours complementary colours can be quite an eyesore.
Maybe the ability to invert the colour or choose the secondary?
Much more to come!
A small bug has been discovered regarding our chronological jobs on our server. The problem will be sorted out shortly.
Pardon for any delay, we've unexpectedly had to move our office and are taking a little extra time getting settled in.
A lot has been updated but only whenever I've had some free and the motivation to do so resulting in a less than comprehensive list of updates and fixes.
I've begun to reach out to festivals currently listed on FestiCal to join and encourage you to do so too. Hopefully soon we can take FestiCal from a listing site to an active community of filmmakers, film festivals and audiences a like! It's been a long, fun journey so far and I finally feel the platform is at a point where it is ready for criticism and strong feedback. I look forward to what comes next.
Either way, FestiCal is getting tighter, lighter and better with each update and here is some of what I've been up to:
There's been some big changes behind the scenes here at FestiCal, but the biggest would be we now have SSL encryption for our domain.
A larger blog post is coming with the rest of the updates.
Here goes a quick open public test!
I've had a few people asking for invites and unfortunately missing their requests more than occasionally so I've decided to open the gates.
Remember to email all bugs, errors or suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org with a detailed description and clear title.
Festival signup is also opened up but things may change regarding that in a short amount of time. We shall see.
I'd been delaying this update for far too long as I was worried about tearing down my hacked-together system and fail to rebuild it. Good news! I didn't! The upgrade was a success and now is objectively better on both the frontend and backend. Expect a faster and better experience as the upgrade improves.
The calendar system got a minor overhaul. The interface is cleaner and more present, the dates more refined and the browsing experience vastly improved.
*Please note*: I have removed browsing between dates, and now all dates are searched at once. They may come back at a later date.
Wow, this was a big one. The original system was honestly too complex for its own good. A full teardown happened and I'm glad for it. Again, everything is much more refined than before and much faster.
I have improved searching and date refining greatly, fixed searching by country, and much more.
While there still is a bug in the displayed date, the order of festivals is correct! I am working on locating the bug in the code.
*Please note*: I have yet to refine provinces/states and cities but it will come shortly. Current inputs are simply placeholders
We are getting very close to an actual open alpha test. Stay tuned for more on that!
A small bit of work on a public API has begun, not much to be excited about but I just thought I should note that.
User registration is slowly opening back up after the initial tests.
Currently we've added a request invitation page for anyone who wishes to test and explore more features of FestiCal.
Anyone who wishes to do so can request an invitation code here
The invitation process is not automatic but I will do my best to reply in a timely matter.
It's been a long, slow process but hopefully everyone will appreciate the massive overhaul to the site in general but more specifically the calendar, festival list and festival pages.
I've completely rewritten both the calendar and festival system to run smoother and all on one page. No more constant refreshing as you browse.
Please note : I haven't gotten around to implementing everything you see on the festival list page. Some elements are still placeholder until I can find more time to work it.
Oh no! We've fallen victim to the social media page layout! Yup. There's actually a reason for it that will be rolling out in a little while but I'm sure you can all see where it's going.
Stay tuned for more on that!
We've been doing a good amount of behind the scenes work as well of some major front-end work.
We hope you appreciate the new look. More will be coming soon.
Mobile issues do currently exist and will be worked on.
There is also a major update is the works, you will see this update slowly roll out component by component.
We appreciate your patience.
The calendar has begun serious development in both the monthly and weekly format.
Both layouts currently work properly even on both but the bugs are being worked out and the design 'workshopped'.
To keep debugging simple, all databases (besides the user & message databases) have been dumped.
Expect this to happen a few more times in the coming months.
We've completed the inbox system's basic features! These basic features include:
We're currently tweaking the final bits of code for:
Select any festival and scroll down to the bottom to find the comment section. We'll add a better table of contents to the festival pages soon
For now, only posting is live but soon we'll be adding more features.
Also, the toolbar is currently only a placeholder but we're working on adding markdown to comments.
Please feel free to test it out as much as you'd like.
Stress testing is helpful to us.
We've added an inbox to FestiCal, available under your username on the navigation bar.
You can send, receive and deleted messages.
We're working on:
This system is still in its alpha stages, please bear with us while we work out the bugs.
Merry Christmas to all you FestiCals! I hope you have a nice white Christmas!
Festival registration begins to open up!
Currently you can register, but there may be some bugs. Later we'll add the option to merge user and festival accounts but for now they are separate.
The login form handles both currently.
